Being the oldest distillery on the breathtaking Isle of Skye, Talisker Distillery’s whisky is just as iconic as the island’s sweeping vistas.

Founded in 1830 it suffered two great fires that destroyed much of the original buildings. It was acquired by Diageo in 1925, who spent the next few decades rebuilding much of the distillery and modernising much of its equipment. Although unusually it uses swan neck lye pipes which helps to condense some of the alcohol before it reaches the cooler creating very sulphuric notes.

For much of its history it was predominantly known from its independent bottlings, but it achieved greater prominence when it was included within the legendary Classic Malts Selection in 1998. Since then Diageo has released a number of critically and commercially acclaimed expressions and is now one of the companies most popular single malts.

Notably it was Robert Louis Stevenson’s favourite whisky.
